







This tag line on his business card speaks volumes about Gene Hughes CADC II: "Let us put a little sunshine in your life" even when Gene was putting up one hell of a fight for his life, he was bringing sunshine into the lives of his clients. Sadly, Gene succumbed to cancer on November 20, '05, But it is that 'sunshine' that lives on as Gene's legacy. According to Region 1 North Board member Joe Aragon, CADC II who was a personal friend, "Gene's legacy is everone's life he touched---CAADC, MSJC students, his family, his church, his community, and his lovely wife". Along with wife and life partner Tish Hughes, GCollege. He was a bulwark in the recovery community and Region 1 North, particpating on the 2004 Conference Committee, even while undergoing treatment. CAADAC was pleased to recognize Gene in 2003 with the first Joe Ginannantonio Outstanding Educator Award. Gene was an active member of the First Love Ministry Church. A Viet Nam era veteran, Gene served with the US Navy SeaBees from 1961-1964. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Tish Hughes of Winchester; 3 daughters, 4 sons and 11 grandchildren. Gene, you live on in the hearts of all those you have touched!
